service manual differs sharply from the user's or owner’s manuals that are provided with most electrical appliances and other devices in terms of their use, content and availability to most people. Compared to a user's manual, which only provides basic information on the proper care and operation of such equipment, service manuals provide more in-depth information about the product, which could further extend the usability and value of the equipment purchased.
While service manuals are most often utilized by people or companies that are tasked with the repair and maintenance of appliances and other devices, regular end users with a penchant for DIY activities will find them very useful.
They include design schematics, part numbers and descriptions, and other details that are unnecessary for owners or end-users to know. Some manuals may even feature advanced engineering and technical documentation in order to help service personnel better do their work. Other information that can be found in service manuals include troubleshooting information that might help solve minor operational issues.
Because of the wealth of data that service manuals often contain, they do not come free with products as a user's manual does. The information in a service manual can be valuable, particularly in the hands of competitors of the company. As such, these products are sold only to a select few.
